Lithuanian Language for Foreigners B1

The course is meant for the students who know Lithuanian already. During the course the students are to enrich their Lithuanian vocabulary, to repeat previously acquired knowledge on Lithuanian grammar (the usage of reflexive verbs and pronominal forms of adjectives and participles) and to learn new grammatical material (the usage of the participles and other forms of the verbs), to develop conversational, reading and writing skills. The students will be encouraged to speak on different topics and to apply theoretical knowledge practically.

After the course the students will be able to:

  • Use complex grammar categories while writing and speaking about everyday life, discussing on various topics.
  • Express the emotions, feelings, dreams, expectations and aims.
  • Speak about books, cultural events or concerts using complex sentences and different forms of the verbs.
  • Apply grammar rules to spoken and written language.

Topics:

  • “Me and my friends. Is friendship important? My friends and me in the past and in the future”. Vocabulary: abstract nouns, hobbies, adverbs, expressing surprise and content. Grammar: the revision of pronominal forms of adjectives and of the tenses of the verbs (Future tense and Past Iterative).
  • “The habits of Lithuanians concerning food. Healthy food: homemade or at the restaurant?”. Vocabulary: Lithuanian dishes, European cuisine, adverbs, related to the topic of the lesson. Grammar: reflexive verbs and conjugations.
  • “Reminiscences, diaries and letters. My own history”. Vocabulary: the adverbs indicating time and characteristics, abstract nouns.  Grammar: Imperative Mood, Subjunctive Mood.
  • “Once upon a time… Fiction in our life”. Vocabulary: the names of the genres (literature, cinema, theatre, music). Grammar: active and passive participles (Present Tense).
  • “Place and space in our life. Identity and ecology”. Vocabulary: international words and their Lithuanian analogues. Grammar: active and passive participles (Past Tense). Constructions with kad.
  • “Culture and subculture. What do we know about each other?”. Vocabulary: person’s habits, ideas and beliefs, dreams, hopes and ambitions, responsibilities and preferences. Grammar: pusdalyvis and padalyvis. Complex grammatical structures.
  • Revision and preparation for the exam.
