Lithuanian as a Foreign Language A2

This course is aimed at the students who previously had some exposure to Lithuanian or completed Beginner (A1) Lithuanian course. The course aims at helping the students to achieve a greater command of the grammatical concepts acquired previously as well as introducing new grammatical material. Most attention is paid to the tasks that help the students develop active language usage and enrich vocabulary.


Having completed the course students will be able to:

  • to speak on the themes covered during the course;
  • to ask and answer questions on the themes covered during the course;
  • to use the public phrases on the themes covered during the course;
  • to write texts on the themes covered during the course;
  • to use different grammatical categories in written texts and oral communication.

Topics:

  • Travelling and transportation. Vocabulary: means of travel, destinations, giving directions, arrival/departure time, holiday travelling, sightseeing, tourism activities. Grammar: place and time prepositions, question words, numerals, prefixes.
  • House and home. Vocabulary: parts of buildings, household appliances, furniture, household items and chores, renting a house or apartment. Grammar: endings of adjectives, endings of adjectival pronouns, the comparative and superlative degree.
  • Weather and climate. Vocabulary: seasons and the weather, climate zones; climate change and nature. Grammar: numerals, government and agreement.
  • Fashion and style. Vocabulary: clothes and accessories, shopping, prices, politeness phrases, adjectives describing clothes. Grammar: derivation of adjectives, the imperative mood and the subjunctive mood, relative clauses.
  • Health and hygiene. Vocabulary: body parts, personal care, illness and medicine. Grammar: reflexive verbs, derivation of diminutives, conjunction.

  • A1 knowledge of Lithuanian language

Associate Professor of Vytautas Magnus University

She has been working as a lecturer at VMU for more than 15 years. She have taught Lithuanian as a Foreign Language (levels A1-A2), Theoretical and Practical Grammar, Teaching Lithuanian as a Foreign Language, Language Education in Intercultural Context, Professional Language etc. The main areas of her research interests are first language acquisition, multilingualism, spoken language, developmental language disorder.
