This course is aimed at students with no prior knowledge of Danish. The course aims at helping the students to achieve communicative competence that includes the use of the language during listening, reading comprehension, speaking, writing at the elementary level.

After completing the course, you will be able to:

  • pronounce Danish words correctly,
  • briefly introduce yourself,
  • read and comprehend simple texts,
  • understand short adapted audio and video recordings, phrases and words used in everyday situations,
  • give and ask for necessary information,
  • start and maintain a conversation, ask questions,
  • write down the provided information in simple language,
  • use grammatical and lexical structures.

We will discuss the following topics:

  • greeting and saying goodbye,
  • introducing yourself and meeting other people,
  • parts of the day, days of the week, years,
  • family and everyday life,
  • professions and jobs,
  • housing,
  • food and traditional dishes.

Grammar topics covered in the course:

  • alphabet,
  • word order in sentences,
  • nouns: gender and number,
  • articles: definite & indefinite,
  • questions,
  • personal, possessive pronouns,
  • modal verbs: can, could,
  • present tense & past tense of verbs.

  • 14 weeks (Wednesday 17.30-19.00 & Friday 16.45-18.15)

Prerequisites for entering the course

  • None

Acknowledgement of acquired competencies

  • A document certifying the obtained competence or an academic certificate (upon the student‘s request)
