The aim of the course is to help students to gain general knowledge about contemporary Lithuanian art and its historical and cultural contexts.

Having completed the course students will be able to:

  • To define basic features and tendencies in Lithuanian theatre with reference to historical and cultural context;
  • To define basic features and tendencies in Lithuanian cinema with reference to historical and cultural context;

Tomas Pabedinskas

Associated professor at the Department of Contemporary Arts at Vytautas Magnus University

Dr. Tomas Pabedinskas is a photographer, a photography theoretician, a critic and a curator. His academic interests include creative photography and interdisciplinary contemporary art. He is the author of two monographs on contemporary Lithuanian photography (“Contemporary Lithuanian Photography. Relationship between the Image and the Identity of a Person”, 2010 and “Žmogus Lietuvos fotografijoje. Požiūrių kaita XX ir XXI a. sandūroje”, 2010). He constantly publishes scholarly articles and criticism, curates exhibitions and has staged personal exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. Currently Tomas Pabedinskas works as an associated professor at the Department of Contemporary Arts at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania.
